ID Suite Officer

British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for an ID Suite Officer on a permanent contract. The role is paying £29,076.18 per annum, plus £3,033.56 London allowance and will be based in Aldgate, London. 

BTP is the national police Force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, including London Underground, across which we ensure the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year. The world in which we work is fast paced, operationally and commercially demanding, and constantly changing.

As an ID Suite Officer you will be required to:

Responsible for all tasks associated with identity parades, in accordance with PACE, including:

  • Organise and plan bookings (including those from other forces)
  • Liaise with suspects and witnesses.
  • Liaise with solicitors, appropriate adults and other representatives.
  • Ensure that ID procedures fully comply with PACE and Codes of Practice.
  • Provide full administrative support to the department in respect of all correspondence, travel facilities, filing and maintaining the diary.
  • Prepare statements and building case files for officers in the case.

The successful ID Suite Officer will be required to evidence the following:

Experience:

  • Proven experience of dealing with members of the public, preferably in a customer services environment.
  • A policing background would be preferable but not essential.

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management, and influencing and problem solving skills.
  • A very flexible approach to work is required to meet the needs of victims and witnesses, and to accommodate urgent parade bookings.
  • Requires a degree of creative skill to effectively interpret witness descriptions for the compilation of ID Parades (VIPER).

Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of PACE Code D, Equal Opportunities and Policing protocols (preferable not essential).
  • An excellent working knowledge of VIPER.

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This post requires a very high level of communication and interpersonal skills. The post holder is required to liaise with persons at all levels, including Home Office forces, legal departments and must have the ability to build good rapport with young members of the community. A sympathetic and caring nature is required for dealing with distressed and vulnerable victims and witnesses. The post holder must be able to remain calm and operate discretion at all times. It is essential that no errors are made in relation to the laid down procedures as this would affect the outcome of any criminal charges arising from parade results.

Flexibility is required as the services of this post can at times require cover in the evenings, weekends, and on bank holidays.
