Assistant Workshop Manager
Location: Unit 41, Stephenson Way. Wakefield.
One full-time permanent position of 37 hours.
Salary: £36,996.00 - £39,036.00 per annum

An opportunity has arisen to join the Transport Department of West Yorkshire Police as the Assistant Workshop Manager.

The successful applicant will work closely with the existing Assistant Workshop Manager. Working together you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day co-ordination of the workshop function. The supervision of around 25 multi-skilled employees, ensuring that the work load is effectively managed, carried out within set timescales and work is completed to the high standards that the Force demands. This will enable the department to provide an effective and efficient service to West Yorkshire Police and external customers.

You must have the capability to undertake the following key responsibilities:

• Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions, reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.

• Proactively manage the performance, attendance, and wellbeing of police staff against the required standards to ensure they are dealt with and supported in accordance with the correct policies and procedures.

• To manage, supervise and monitor the department in terms of recruitment, training, development, team briefings, and workload ensuring staff can perform efficiently and effectively.

• Responsible for the co-ordination of the workshop function, to liaise with suppliers and retailers to buy-in and outsource services. To monitor Key Performance Indicators relating to workshop performance, vehicle downtime, service scheduling, warranty income and external contractor spend.

• Authorise the provision of parts and service within set budgets. To provide written repair estimates on vehicles that are suspected to be uneconomical to repair.

• Responsible for the security of the site, including opening and closing of the building daily. To be a key holder to assist in events when security and fire alarms activate out of hours. To maintain effective procedures to ensure the safety of visitors in accordance with Force Policy and procedures.

• Ensure vehicle repairs are carried out in an economical manner meeting the required quality standards and that all associated written documentation is accurate.

• Responsible for the maintenance & Safety of equipment and tools in line with periodic PPMs and insurance reports and to act on any recommendations with immediate effect. Ensure good housekeeping is being always practised to provide a safe working environment,

• To manage the compliance of the Health and Safety at Work Act, C.O.S.H.H regulations and policies set out by the Force, carrying out risk assessments and reviews when required.

• Monitor the data in relation to exposure levels to Hand Arm Vibration (HAVs) to ensure that staff do not exceed the daily threshold limits advised by the HSE.

• To ensure staff operate tools & equipment in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and Force Policy, whilst always practising good housekeeping to provide a safe working environment

• Manage, monitor, and interrogate a range of computer systems to identify any anomalies and resolve to ensure compliance with appropriate policies and procedures.

A City & Guilds in Motor Vehicle Engineering or equivalent (NVQ 3, BTEC) is essential, as well as significant post apprenticeship experience in vehicle repair and maintenance. It is also essential that the successful candidate have sound knowledge of Health & Safety and COSHH regulation.
