Using your knowledge of Road Traffic legislation, you will have an enquiring mind, an eye for detail, and determination to keep the roads safe for all, especially vulnerable road users.

You will be a self-starter, and responsible for managing your own workload. You will oversee individual cases from start to finish utilising a number of disposal options to get the right result to keep the roads safe.

This is a busy environment in a growth sector of the Criminal Justice Arena, but the right candidate will be supported from the outset and training on police systems where appropriate will be provided.

After a qualifying period, flexible working and working from home can be applied for.

 

Skills & Experience

Job Purpose:

Investigate and decide on reasonable & proportionate disposal options in respect of Road Traffic Allegations of Bad Driving,

To conduct effective enquiries in relation to Allegations of Bad Driving in a timely manner, ensuring best evidence is presented.

Key Accountabilities:

Undertake enquiries generated from the ‘Single Online Home’ reporting system & from other forces/agencies in respect of allegations of bad driving.

Applying the National Decision Making Model and Investigations Framework Principles (Incl. THRIVE - Threat, Harm, Risk, Investigation, Vulnerability and Engagement), set investigative strategies for allocated allegation of bad driving cases to obtain additional evidence where appropriate to assist in making proportionate disposal options.

Build prosecution files to a high standard ensuring they comply with DPP’s Guidance on Charging and any prosecution decision is made in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors (Full Code Test).

Manage own caseload ensuring legislation on Statutory Time Limits is adhered to on each investigation.

Be flexible in approach and adapt to the changing demands of the Criminal Justice area of business

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Proven and well-evidenced knowledge of practices and procedures that relate road traffic legislation

Excellent oral and written communication skills, confident in dealing with enquiries from staff and members of the public in order to deliver a high level of customer service whilst managing customer expectations. The ability to be assertive when required. A proven record in producing clear, legible, concise and accurate statements, reports and letters.

Highly motivated and able to demonstrate good time management skills with the ability to work equally as part of a team or on their own initiative. The post holder must be flexible in their approach.

The ability to use his/her initiative, together with the ability to work calmly and accurately under pressure and deliver to agreed timescales.

Has the skills required to operate and interrogate proficiently the various computer systems used by Surrey Police.

Previous experience in the use of windows based software.

The post holder will be required to undertake training in the use of secure communications systems.
