An opportunity has arisen for a Substantive Sergeant to manage a border policing team, the main purpose of the role for a Sergeant within the Counter Terrorism (CT) Border Policing Team is to manage their team in identifying passengers coming through the UK Border who may pose a National Security risk. The majority of this work is responding to national CT alerts and taskings. In the absence of taskings officers are trained to identify other passengers who may be of interest to CT policing and partners; to do this the officers will be deployed within the airport footprint.

Within CTP Borders the Sgt’s function is to quality assure the use of Border policing powers, specifically Schedule 7 of TACT. This assurance includes the proportionate and justified use of the power, compliance with the codes of practice for selection of persons subject to examination, appropriate and lawful use of lawful engagement within published legal advice.

Once an individual has been selected for an examination under S.7 TACT, the Sgt performs the role of the review officer. The subject is required to be reviewed every two hours to ensure their welfare and that the examinations is being conducted diligently.

Similarly, officers deployed within the footprint of the airport can comes across spontaneous incidents that will require supervisory direction, for example, safeguarding, arrests, and volatile passengers. Deployment across the region is also required and a possibility, there is a requirement for flexibility of all officers to be able to provide cover for all ports in the absence of other like post holders.
