Detective Sergeant - Field Intelligence Operations (CTPSE)

We welcome applications from substantive Detective Sergeants for this exciting opportunity within our Counter Terrorism Policing team, based in Folkestone, Kent. You will join our Field Intelligence department, a unique team at the heart of counter terrorism investigations.

You will lead on the tactical delivery of both covert and overt intelligence operations relating to national security. The role supports partner intelligence agencies in managing the risk posed-by international terrorism,  Northern Ireland-related terrorism, ERWT (Extreme Right Wing Terrorism), LASIT (Leftwing and Self-Initiated Terrorism), espionage and other national security issues. It also plays a vital role in ensuring the national counter-terrorism network is effectively linked into local policing. 

To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified detective with experience of supervising investigative or intelligence work including covert techniques, intelligence development and management of risk.

Please note that this role is predominately based in Kent, but will cover Surrey and Sussex and as a result you will be required to travel for business purposes to these areas. There may also be the occasional travel throughout the UK. Therefore, the successful candidate will require a full UK driving licence.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance to us and therefore it will be necessary to pass and maintain enhanced security vetting level, DV and have resided in the UK for the past 10 years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government), and studying abroad.  In addition you must be a British National and able to provide documentary evidence of this.

  • Kent Officers will need to inform Kent HR Resource Planning at the earliest opportunity of intention to apply.   Every Officer application form must be signed by the Chief Supt or police staff equivalent and sent to Kent HR Resource Planning no later than 5 working days prior to closing date unless exceptional circumstances apply. This is required so that Chief Officer approval can be obtained for the application to progress, which will be managed by Kent HR Resource Planning.  These steps must be completed prior to submission application.  If your application for an opportunity is not approved prior to submission to the recruiting organisation you may not be supported for release to the role, should you be successful.
  • Officers from other forces are welcome to apply. You may wish to consult with your HR team regarding completion of additional forms.
